Kunza Rehman

I completed my Bachelor in Biomedical Physics Research (Hons) at UTS as I had planned to become a radiographer once I had completed my Masters. I always had a passion for healthcare and helping people rebuild their lives whether it be as a radiographer, nurse, or research officer. After completing my honours research project on 3D printed collagen gel for bone regeneration, I wanted to delve further into biomedical research, however, after completing an elective in ‘Health Economics and Evaluation’ during my undergraduate, I decided I wanted to use my research skills in the public health sphere.

I was very intrigued by the study of human behaviour through a public health lens in this elective. I found it interesting how important the study of choices people make is and how this affects the overall distribution of healthcare and healthcare providers. For this reason, I decided to complete a Master's in Public Health and Masters in Infectious Disease Intelligence as I would be able to learn more about the choices people make within populations and how we can help ensure everyone receives proper and equal healthcare, irrespective of who they are.

Review/Reflections on your experience as an intern with CHETRE

As part of my masters, I chose to do an internship and was luckily paired with CHETRE. This was an excellent opportunity for me as one of the main things I felt that I was missing throughout my degree was implementing my skills in a real-life scenario. I was able to practice knowledge and skills I gained throughout my bachelor’s and honours research to conduct a literature review. I was able to learn how to communicate and build relationships with the team, other interns and collaborators part of CHETRE. I was also able to learn that all workplaces have their own culture as I was observing how everyone worked and interacted with each other.
